45 Simple Tips to Increase Traffic to your Blog

If you want to attract a strong readership for your blog then first you need to create remarkable content and generate traffic so that your content gets read. The more people who find your blog, the more people who will read your ideas and engage with your content.

In this post I am sharing 45 simple tips to increase traffic to your blog and help you build audience and  increase readership.


  1. Your title must be unbelievably powerful.
  2. Be cheeky! Start a debate by writing about something controversial.
  3. If you create informative, helpful content, people will visit your website regularly. 
  4. Interview key people or influencers in the industry you are targeting. Then post the interviews as blog posts,  video on youtube or vimeo, and include images. These interviews will be shared like wildfire.
  5. Find out what type of topic or questions your buyer personas are asking. Search forums, Facebook groups, LinkedIn groups, Google+ communities and then write about it.
  6. Become an author on LinkedIn by publishing your content on LinkedIn Pulse.
  7. Write about hot trending topics. Tools like Twitter, Google Trends, and Feedly are very useful to discover what is trending
  8. Include a search function on your blog.
  9. Automate the scheduling of your posts. You can use HootSuite, Buffer, HubSpot or any other content automation tool.
  10. Blog regularly and consistently (According to Social Media B2B, B2B companies that blog generate 67% more leads per month than those that don’t. )
  11. Think hard about the word count or read time of your blog posts.  (According to Medium, the ideal length of a Blog post is 7 mins or 1600 words)
  12. Always refer back to your website statistics to find out which of your content is best performing, then create more content around these topics.
  13. Make sure you blog is optimized for mobiles. (According to comScore, nearly 60% of digital media consumption takes place on mobile devices)
  14. Pay close attention to the amount of content your blog has. (According to HubSpot companies with 51 to 100 pages of content generate 48% more traffic than companies with 1 to 50 pages)
  15. Use a variety of content types. Diversify between memes, blog posts, infographics, eBooks & Guides, videos, webinars etc.. People are different and they like to consume different types of content.
  16. If you find you have best performing content, compile it and turn it into an informative presentation on SlideShare
  17. Make noise by writing press releases about your latest activities. Distribute them on sites like PRWeb and always link them back to your blog.
  18. Use catchy stock photos and graphics to draw attention to your posts (90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual, and visuals are processed 60,000X faster in the brain than text. (Sources: 3M Corporation and Zabisco).
  19. Use infographics on part of your content strategy. Infographics done right do not only make it easier to understand complex information, but boost both the creator’s profile and website traffic.
  20. 2015 is the year of video content. Make sure to produce and upload your videos onto YouTube and Vimeo — make sure a link to your site is in the description and the video.
  21. Produce podcasts and distribute them through iTunes and SoundCloud.
  22. End your posts with a question. Ask your readers for their opinion. What they think? What experiences they have had. Encourage a conversation. Get to learn more about your readers.
  23. Guest blogging is a great way to increase visibility. Blogger LinkUp is a free service that allows you to post articles you have available and respond to requests for guest posts.
  24. Host or take part in webinars.
  25. Using a LinkedIn profile or company page, post your blog content and participate in discussions on your newsfeed or in groups you are in. 
  26. If a reader leaves a comment on one of your posts, make sure to reply. Again, ask questions and encourage a conversation. 
  27. Optimize your On page SEO for search engines. You want those spiders crawling everywhere.
  28. Create a Facebook page for your blog. Use it to communicate with your readers and post a notification every time you publish a new blog article.
  29. Use keywords or phrases in your post title and subheadings.
  30. Tweet your posts with catchy hashtags, image and don't forget Twitter cards.
  31. Publish your posts on your Google+ page when you publish them and dive deeper by publishing on appropriate communities too.
  32. Create a Tumblr blog and add content related to your niche as well as re-blogging content from your own site.
  33. Engage with readers and writers on other blogs. Leave comments, ask questions. Start a conversation.
  34. Be generous with the blogger world by linking out to other blogs. The same will happen with you.
  35. Share content you find interesting on your social media accounts. Don't only focus on yourself.
  36. Encourage and use social sharing buttons on all of your posts.
  37. Include phrases that you think could be quoted in your content. Don't forget to add click-to-tweet to encourage sharing on Twitter.
  38. Link to all your posts with StumbleUpon.
  39. Include either your blog’s URL or the title of your latest post in your email signature.
  40. Post helpful articles on sites like HubPages with links back to your blog.
  41. Turn your blog posts into a spider web by cross linking your new blog posts to your old posts. Remember that you don't want to add more than 6 other links.  
  42. Use relevant keywords in your image file names and alt tags. Search engines also check on those.
  43. Make sure your blog has a subscription form for those want to be notified every time you post something new.
  44. Allow user to subscribe to your blog updates via RSS.
